Ed Sheeran: “La radio sigue siendo el medio más importante para triunfar en la música” [VIDEO]

Unos disfrutaron de Ed Sheeran en Lima desde el momento que salió al escenario, en el concierto que dio en el Estadio Nacional. Pero los fans de verdad, que siempre están enganchados con Radio Planeta, lo tuvieron mucho antes, en una entrevista que nos concedió en exclusiva y que, en parte, fue transmitida a través de Facebook. Pero eso no fue todo. El músico de 26 años platicó con la encantadora Mafe de muchos temas más y aquí, por fin, podrás ver de principio a fin este singular encuentro.

Es tu segunda vez en Perú, ¿cómo te sientes?

Estoy emocionado, esta es una gran oportunidad. Estoy con muchas ganas de salir a tocar ya.

Hablemos de ‘Divide’ por un momento. ¿Sientes que es tu mejor trabajo, tu más grande álbum hasta el momento, por el efecto que ha tenido en las personas?

Ciertamente, sí. Pienso que ha sido muy bueno. Es decir, sigue creciendo, ya que solo he sacado un par de sencillos, realmente. Entonces, todavía hay mucho que hacer.

¿Hay mucho más que hacer?

Sí, porque recién he lanzado el video de ‘Galway Girl’ y hay al menos 3 o 4 singles más del álbum por promocionar. Entonces, habrá más cosas todavía.

¿Nos seguirás sorprendiendo entonces?

No necesariamente sorprendiendo, ya que las canciones las tienen, pero los videos serán buenos.

¿Cómo te sentiste cuando te diste cuenta que el álbum la estaba rompiendo en los rankings? Porque he revisado que has podido tener casi todo el álbum en un solo ranking.

Sí, eso fue inusual, pero creo que es solo la forma en que funciona Spotify ahora, es la forma en que las canciones se producen, y hemos tomado ventaja de eso.

Entonces, ¿crees que las redes sociales te han ayudado mucho?

Las redes sociales definitivamente ayudan, pero creo que la radio sigue siendo el medio más importante para triunfar en la música, sí. Creo que si no estuviera en la radio, las redes sociales no podrían hacer lo que la radio hace.

¿Y cuál fue tu reto más grande mientras hacías ‘Divide’?

Elegir qué canciones iban a estar.

Cuando estaba escuchando el álbum, sentí que era un trabajo bien personal. ¿De dónde sacaste la inspiración para este álbum?

Solo de vivir, de asegurarte de no ser tan duro contigo y permitirte cometer errores, porque eso nos lleva a tener experiencias.

He notado también en las letras de las canciones que has estado mucho de fiesta.

Sí, bueno, es algo constante en los últimos tres álbumes. Bueno, soy solo un chico de 26 años, es lo que hacemos.

Es parte de la vida. Y bueno, cambiando de tema, ¿nos puedes contar sobre tu aparición en ‘Game of Thrones’?

Fue genial. Justo ese día hacía mucho frío y olvidé ponerme los calentadores de piernas que me dieron, así que fue un poco duro ese día.

¿Alguna experiencia en particular? ¿Algo que viviste con el elenco de actores?

No, nada. Para ser honesto, cada vez que digo algo sobre el tema, ocurre que todos comienzan a comentar “¡alerta de spoiler!”.

No te permiten decir nada.

Bueno, yo nunca he dicho nada del capítulo, pero cuando dije que mi escena la hice con Maisie (Williams, Arya Stark en ‘Game of Thrones’) fue como que “¡alerta de spoiler!”. Entonces, prefiero mantenerme al margen de ello.

Vimos que estuviste en Cusco. Gracias por llegar una semana antes, todos nos sentimos supermaravillados y emocionados por eso. Cuéntanos qué hiciste, cómo fue tu experiencia.

Hice los Caminos del Inca hacia Machu Picchu, lo que fue bien largo.

También los hice como hace tres semanas. Supercansado, ¿no?

Hice un poco de canotaje, que estuvo genial. Hice mucha caminata, también comí un poco de cuy.

¿Te gustó?

La verdad que no, me sentí un poco mal por el cuy. Y… bueno, caminé bastante y creo que lo principal fue Machu Picchu.

¿Te gustó entonces?

Me encantó.

¿Subiste a Huayna Picchu?

No, porque no me gustan las alturas. Cuando estoy en la ladera, estoy normal, pero no podría subir al pico y luego mirar abajo. Realmente, no me gustan las alturas, así que Huayna Picchu no hubiera sido bueno para mí.

También estuviste con tu equipo, ¿no? ¿Viniste con amigos?

Sí. Vine con mi novia, fue su cumpleaños y se tomó una semana libre del trabajo.

¿Cómo se sintió?

Bueno, ella es deportista, entonces no se sentía sin aliento. Más bien, era yo el que se cansaba.

Hablando de diferencias, escuché que te deshiciste de tu celular. ¿Cómo haces para comunicarte con tus seres queridos cuando estás de gira?

Tengo un e-mail y Skype, y creo que son las únicas cosas que necesitas.

Y tú manejas tus redes sociales, ¿no?

Sí. Tengo un iPad con Instagram, Facebook y Twitter, pero no uso el iPad para cosas personales.

It’s your second time in Peru, how do you feel?

I’m excited, this is a big gig. I’m really looking forward to playing now.

Let’s talk about ‘Divide’ for a moment. Do you feel it is your biggest work, your biggest album so far, because of the effect it has had on people?

Certainly, yes. I think it has been very good. I mean, it keeps growing, since I’ve only pulled out a couple of singles, really. So, there is still a lot to do.

Is there a lot more?

Yes, because I have just put out the ‘Galway Girl’ video and there are at least 3 or 4 more singles from the album to promote. Then there will be a little bit more.

You are going to keep surprising us?

Not necessarily surprising, because you already have the songs, but the videos will be good.

*How did you feel when you realized that the album was breaking the rankings? Because I’ve checked you manage to put the whole album, all the songs, in a single ranking.*

Yes, that was odd, but I think it’s just the way Spotify works now, it’s the way the songs are produced, and we’ve taken advantage of that.

So, do you think social media has helped you a lot?

Social media definitely helps, but I do think radio is still the main important way to break in music, yeah. I think that, if I didn’t have radio, social media couldn´t have done what the radio does.

And what was your biggest challenge while doing ‘Divide’?

Picking the song, choosing them.

When I heard the album, when listened to it, I felt like it was very personal. Where did you get the inspiration from, especially for this one?

Just living, just making sure that you don’t be so hard with you so much and make mistakes, because that leads you to have experiences.

I see also in the lyrics you have been in a lot of parties.

Yeah, that’s a kind of a consistently on the last three albums. I’m just a 26-year-old boy, that’s what we do.

It’s part of life, part of living. And well, this is not from the album, but can you tell us how was your experience in ‘Game of Thrones’, your appearance in one episode?

Yes, it was good. It was very cold in that day and I forgot to put my leg warmers. It was quite chilly that day.

Is there any particular experience you want to share? Something that you lived with the cast or anything?

No, no. To be honest, with ‘Game of Thrones’ there is one thing: whatever I said it’s like “spoiler alert!”.

You are not allowed to say anything.

I really have said anything, but whenever I said anything about it, like my scene with Maisie (Williams, Arya Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’) it’s like “spoiler alert!” So I think I’d rather stay away of it.

You were in Cusco, we saw that. Thank you for arrived a week earlier, everyone was like amazed and super excited. What can you tell us? What do you do in Cusco? What was you experience?

I did the Machu Picchu hike, which is long.

I did it too like weeks ago.

Tiring, isn´t it?

It is. Killing.

I went out the rapids on a raft. I did a lot of hiking and ate some guinea pig.

You like it?

Not really, I felt a little bad for the guinea pig. And… that was it. I loved walking. Machu Picchu is the main thing.

Did you like it?

I loved it.

Did you do Huayna Picchu?

I didn’t do Huayna Picchu. I don’t really like heights. Once one is there, standing in the bis section, in the edge and looking down, I don’t really like it. Huayna Picchu wouldn’t have been good for me.

You were with your team, right? You came with your friends?

Yes. I came with my girlfriend, it was her birthday and she took a week off from work.

How did she felt?

She is very sporty, so she didn’t feel very out of breath. Rather, I was very out of breath.

So, talking about differences, I heard you got rid of your phone. How do you manage, when you are in a tour, to communicate with your parents, family and girlfriend?

I have an e-mail and I have Skype, and I think those are the only things you really need.

And do you manage your social media?

I do. I got an iPad with Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t use it for personal things.
